Enzo Fernández faces controversy after Chelsea suspension amid contract tensions

Javier Pastori, agent of Enzo Fernández, has criticized Chelsea for suspending the midfielder from upcoming matches, calling the decision “completely unfair.” The punishment, announced by manager Liam Rossiniore, excludes Fernández from key fixtures against Port Vale and Manchester City after comments he made in a recent interview.

The controversy stems from Fernández stating that he would prefer to live in Madrid if given a choice, citing cultural similarities with Buenos Aires. His agent insists the remark was taken out of context, emphasizing that it was a casual response about lifestyle rather than any indication of wanting to leave Chelsea or join another club.

Pastori stated that both he and the player were surprised by the club’s reaction. He explained that Chelsea contacted him about the interview but imposed the sanction before any meaningful discussion took place. According to him, Fernández accepted the decision professionally but did not understand the reasoning behind what he considers a disproportionate punishment.

The situation is further complicated by ongoing contract tensions. Renewal talks between Fernández and Chelsea reportedly stalled earlier in the year due to disagreements over salary and terms. His agent suggested that the club’s handling of the situation, including the suspension, may reflect deeper issues regarding how the player is valued and treated.

Looking ahead, Pastori indicated that Fernández will focus on current team objectives and the upcoming World Cup. However, if contract negotiations remain unresolved afterward, the possibility of a transfer will be considered. Despite the situation, Fernández remains committed on the pitch and has expressed willingness to apologize to fans if his comments were misunderstood.
