Seoul Court Jails Woman for Attempted Blackmail of Football Star Son Heung-min

A Seoul court has handed a four-year prison term to a woman who attempted to extort money from South Korean football icon Son Heung-min. The woman, identified as Yang, demanded 300 million won after sending Son an ultrasound image and claiming he was the father, despite having no confirmation of the baby’s paternity.

According to the court, Yang insisted on her innocence but was found to have deliberately fabricated the accusation to pressure the player for money. Investigators said she later teamed up with a man, named as Yong, in an effort to extract additional payments from Son.

Yong admitted his involvement and received a two-year prison sentence. The court said both individuals attempted to exploit Son’s status and reputation for financial gain, describing their actions as calculated and harmful.

Son, 33, is one of Asia’s most successful footballers. After a long and prolific spell at Tottenham Hotspur, he moved to LAFC for a record MLS transfer fee in August and has since scored 12 goals in 13 matches. Local media previously reported that the suspects were detained last year while Son was still playing in the Premier League.
