Manchester City 2–0 Wolves: Semenyo Shines as City Return to Winning Ways

Manchester City bounced back from a difficult week by securing a 2–0 Premier League victory over Wolves, earning their first league win of 2026 and trimming Arsenal’s lead at the top to four points.

Pep Guardiola rotated his side, leaving Erling Haaland and Phil Foden on the bench, but City made an immediate impact. They struck in the sixth minute when Omar Marmoush met Matheus Nunes’ low cross, giving the hosts early control of the contest.

City continued to threaten, with Marmoush hitting the post after cutting inside from the left. Wolves appealed for a penalty soon after when Yerson Mosquera was struck by the ball in the area, but VAR upheld the referee’s decision that there was no handball.

Antoine Semenyo doubled City’s advantage just before half-time, finding space on the edge of the box and curling a composed finish beyond José Sá. The goal marked his first Premier League strike for the club and effectively put the game out of Wolves’ reach.

The visitors showed more intent after the break, with Mosquera heading against the crossbar, but they were unable to trouble Gianluigi Donnarumma consistently. City managed the second half comfortably to seal a routine win, extending their long unbeaten run against bottom-placed sides while leaving Wolves rooted to the foot of the table.
